Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (often abbreviated as AVPR) is a direct sequel to the Alien vs. Predator (2004) film. The movie, released in 2007, was directed by the Brothers Strause (Colin and Greg Strause) and had a singular goal: to bring a more brutal, bloody, "R"-rated fight to the big screen, responding to the criticism of its predecessor's PG-13 rating.

Premise: Chaos in a Small Colorado Town

The story picks up right after the end of the first film. Aboard a Predator ship on its way home, a Predalien—an Alien-Predator hybrid born from the chest of the Scar Predator—emerges and begins killing the entire ship's crew. The out-of-control ship crashes in the woods outside the small town of Gunnison, Colorado.

The Predalien and several Facehuggers escape the wreckage, quickly infecting a father and son, as well as a group of homeless people in the city's sewers, starting a Xenomorph infestation that rapidly spreads throughout the town.

A distress signal from the crashed ship summons one veteran Predator to Earth. Nicknamed "Wolf" by fans, this Predator is a highly skilled "cleaner" whose mission is to eradicate all evidence of Alien and Predator existence on Earth, including any humans who get in his way.

Key Highlights

A Bloodthirsty "R" Rating: The film delivered on its promise of extreme, graphic violence. Brutal scenes, including Xenomorphs infesting pregnant women in a hospital maternity ward, showcased a much higher level of horror than the previous AVP film.

"The Predalien": This hybrid creature is the central threat, displaying the physical strength of a Predator and the reproductive methods of an Alien. Its ability to directly implant embryos (without a Facehugger) made it a terrifyingly efficient enemy.

A Full-Scale Battle on Earth: Unlike the first film which was set in an isolated location, AVPR brings the war directly to an American urban environment, trapping innocent civilians in the crossfire.

A Dark Ending: The film concludes on a very grim note, where the US military decides to drop a tactical nuclear warhead on Gunnison to wipe out the Alien and Predator threat, killing nearly the entire town's population. Salvaged Predator weapons are eventually delivered to Ms. Yutani, linking the film back to the broader Alien franchise lore.

Reception and Legacy

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem received largely negative reviews from critics, with common complaints targeting the film's extremely dark lighting (making action scenes difficult to see), chaotic editing, and cliché human characters.

Despite this, the film maintains a cult following among hardcore fans who appreciated its willingness to be a far more merciless and brutal sequel, delivering what the first AVP did not: a hard-R rated action-horror film full of violence.
