I’m old enough to remember a time before smartphones, a time when the internet was a noisy, dial-up affair. In that era of simpler technology, my friends and I were captivated by a game on our clunky feature phones called "Love Meter." It was a primitive application. You’d type in two names, and after a very dramatic, pixelated loading bar, it would give you a compatibility rating. It was simple, it was silly, and we were absolutely obsessed with it. Recently, I stumbled upon a modern love calculator website, and the experience sent me on a wave of nostalgia, making me marvel at the incredible evolution of these simple, fun tools.
My memory of "Love Meter" is vivid. The screens were tiny and monochrome. The input method was a nightmare of pressing a number key multiple times to get the right letter. The interface was clunky and slow. But none of that mattered. The pure joy and anticipation we felt while waiting for that result were immense.
